Michael John Cloete Crawford Rutherford is an English guitarist, bassist, musician and singer, who co-founded the rock band Genesis in 1967. He was one of two continuing members of the group alongside keyboardist Tony Banks. Originally a bassist and lead vocalist for Genesis, Rutherford also performed most of the band's rhythmic guitar pieces - usually on a twelve-string guitar - working with Genesis's lead guitarist Anthony Phillips and Steve Hackett. After Hackett left Genesis in 1977, Rutherford took on the role of lead guitarist in the group's studio albums. Rutherford was one of Genesis's main musicians throughout his career and has written lyrics for some of the band's biggest international hits, such as "Follow You Follow Me", "Turn It On Again", "Land of Confusion" and "Throwing It" All One Way ". He was introduced into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Genesis in 2010 .
