Robert Lee Parish is a former American professional basketball player who has played 21 seasons at the center of the National Basketball Association, ranking second in tournament history. He has played the NBA record 1,611 regular season game of his career. Parish is known for its strong defense, high archery ability and fast counter-attacks at the end of the game. During his college career playing in the dark at Centenary College, he hit numbers impressive enough to be drafted three times, twice by ABA teams, and finally in 1976 by Golden State. Warriors of the NBA, with whom he played four seasons as the highlight of another lackluster team. The Boston Celtics needed a new center after Dave Cowens retired and made a deal with the Warriors for Parish and a draft option they would use to pick forward Kevin McHale.
